The Aeronauts is a story about fictitious pilot Amelia Rennes and meteorologist James Glaisher. A quick fact check will reveal that Glaisher did indeed take a flight in a balloon in 1862 (Glaisher would have been 53. There is no Amelia Rennes, but there is definitely the actress Felicity Jones. She wears wild outfits, she stands on top of horsedrawn carriages, she make an exhibition out of her herself and her dog too, she defies gravity, and while Eddie Redmayne's James Glaisher is losing his wits due to lack of oxygen, she keeps hers.
One of the highlights was to see Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones joyously go through a cloud. The main problem for me was the haphazard editing. Once we know certain things, the film flashbacks to when things are uncertain. It destroys any tension. Maybe if it had been told in chronological order, tension could have been built. But it was literally like an editor rearranged certain scenes, closed their eyes, and hoped for the best.
For a Thanksgiving movie, it was light and pretty much harmless. I love historical dramas. While Glaisher was a meteorological pioneer, the final product still managed to make his story seem boring and irrelevant.
