I really wanna love this, but that was a bad trailer. That flesh cape will cause terrible pain when she goes around the house and it gets stuck with the furniture. I'm gonna have to see this! I hope it makes some money so the studios do more Lovecraft RIGHT. It's interesting that the story is updated to modern times. In Lovecraft's original tale the family are hick farmers in the early 1900's, current then. I'm glad it has a real actor in the lead too. Cage is weird enough to be way into Lovecraft, haha. There's plenty of room for insane special effects in the story, they filmmakers hopefully had a look at the end of the film Annihilation with Natalie Portman. The end is way trippy, highly recommended novel and film. FWIW, I've been a Lovecraft fan since my teenz, I used to order Lovecraft hardcovers from Arkham House.
Extra colour in these, Adam. A meteorite lands on a family's farm and slowly infects a family, causing them to act increasingly weird. The first act of the movie was very cliched, with ridiculous dialog setting up the family as country goofs. Once the meteor hits, the movie becomes more visual. At first, the family starts to do harmful things, like when the mom cuts off her own fingers, or when the young boy sits outside by the well all day. Eventually, the chaos builds, and insects and animals mutate into creatures. The most effective part of the movie was when the mother and her young son became fused together into something hideous. One by one, the characters are killed off in various ways, until the only survivor is a scientist who was there to survey the water. One nitpick I had with the movie was the totally unnecessary narration that bookends the beginning and ending. But it kept me interested to see where it went, and I think that a lot of the images from this movie will stay with me for a while.
Nice to know that H.P. Lovecraft and I have the same favorite H.P. Lovecraft story. I soooooo cant wait to see this. I had a ticket but missed it cuz I was out wit Bae😩❤. I had never realized Sam Neill was so involved in cosmic horror! D As for Peter Weir, his Picnic at Hanging Rock also pretty much dwells in metaphysical horror.
Why should I watch The Invisible Man again? I already know the whole story. Thanks to the trai. erm, spoiler. I need season 2. H.P. Lovecraft. Cage. can't wait. Cage's insanity wasn't really impressing me. Looking back, our survivor really knows virtually nothing about the family's experience. They did a movie like this back in 99 it's called The Matrix. 10:17 : what a bubbly fart. Rare to get any adaption of a Lovecraft story, but even more so when you have such a terrific cast, storyline and special effects in the hands of Richard Stanley. This film owes a lot to John Carpenter's the Thing, and that's not a bad thing. I only wish Stanley had been given another fistful of cash to flesh out the effects. As it stands, a very nice piece of work that Cage and Lovecraft fans will all thoroughly enjoy.
